The Marangu route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the most established and well-maintained path for hiking Kilimanjaro. It approaches Kili from the southeast and passes through beautiful rainforest and moorlands. This is the only route that offers sleeping huts in dormitory-style accommodations in lieu of camping.
Mandara and Kibo Huts each feature 60 bunk beds, while Horombo Hut offers 120 cots. Trekkers are provided with bedding and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts include communal dining halls and basic washroom facilities, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long-drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut.
Many hikers choose the Marangu route for hiking Kilimanjaro because it is considered the easiest path up the mountain, thanks to its gradual incline and direct trail.The ascent on this route is consistent and moderate, and the trekking is generally relaxed in contrast to the other routes. Following the Marangu route, you ascend and descend on a similar route and you will meet different groups traveling in the opposite direction. This is a decent wagered for those worried about their fitness.
